Michal and his guys [from Custom Exchange] were prompt and service was fast. I was on the fence about replacing the windows of our home but I’m glad that I did. The windows on the home were single pane aluminum – from when the house was built in the 1960’s I’m sure. We live a block away from a busy boulevard and sometimes when trucks would pass by the windows would rattle. The wind would blow through the windows and the window screens have been gone for years. I’m not joking when I say that whatever temperature it was outside, the house was inside. I’m pretty sure this house was built with no insulation. In the summer it would get hot, in the winter it would get cold. We even resorted to putting blankets over the windows in the winter time or trying to seal them with plastic.
Surprisingly my favorite thing about these windows has been the reduction in the level of noise from outside. The garbage pick-up no longer wakes me up every Wednesday and morning commute traffic from the boulevard is no longer noticeable. I really like that the heat stays in during the winter and the heat stays out in the summer. The other great thing has been the locks. We went from the old style, hand crank windows, to these sliders with a couple of flip latches and deadbolt-style locks. Definitely the kind of windows that you want if you use an alarm system/security. Finally (and this is the most simple joy that came from the whole process) we have screens. We can now open the windows and enjoy the fresh or polluted (depending on air quality that day) breeze that the bay area is so famously known for and not worry about being “bugged” by mosquitos or flies. They also keep our cats in!
The whole process took about half a day. Inside/outside looks a lot better. We sleep a bit easier because it is warmer/cooler and much more quiet. All in all, I’d say it was the right choice!”
