Replacement windows and doors can be a sizeable investment in your home—especially if your home is sizeable. Don’t get us wrong—we believe new windows and doors are a great investment, since they add value to a home and also help homeowners save money on their monthly energy bills, but nevertheless, they do come with a cost that’s not insignificant for the average homeowner.
Many of the Bay Area homeowners we talk to would love to replace every window and patio door in their home with more energy-efficient ones. If they could, they would do it today! It often comes down to finances. While there are financing options available, not every person wants to take out a loan for home improvements. So, in some cases, we get asked if we would be willing to break up the project into stages and replace a portion of the home’s windows and/or doors now, and do the rest at a later time.
This is a great option for homeowners who aren’t interested in financing their replacement windows or who don’t want to tap into their home’s equity. It’s also a great way to go for homeowners who don’t want to sacrifice quality just to get new windows now. They can buy a portion of the high-quality windows they want now, and then save up some more money until they can afford to have the rest of their home outfitted with high-quality replacement windows and doors, rather than going with a cheaper option.
What we often recommend to Bay Area homeowners who want to split up their replacement window installation is to start with the areas in their home that get the hottest in the summer—typically the rooms with windows that face the afternoon sun. That way, they can start saving on their energy bills right away by helping to control the temperature in the rooms that require the most cooling in the summer. Other homeowners may choose to do the windows in the front of their house first, in order to improve their home’s curb appeal sooner, rather than later.
However you choose to split things up, we are happy to work with you. The only other thing you need to keep in mind is that at Custom Exchange, we do have minimum orders (as does every other Bay Area replacement window company that we know of). So, unfortunately, we can’t do one window at a time until your entire house is fully outfitted with new windows. Currently, we have a five-window minimum or a two-door minimum.
Whenever possible, we are happy to work with homeowners who need help coming up with ways to pay for their new windows. Contact us to learn more or to get an estimate on replacement windows for your home in the Pleasanton or the San Jose area. We look forward to hearing from you!
