How long will it take to complete my project?
From the day you sign your contract, it typically takes 2-3 weeks for us to receive the windows or doors from the manufacturer. After we complete a careful inspection of your new windows, we will call you to schedule an installation date. Our professional replacement window installers can usually complete the installation within one day.
What are retrofit windows?
Retrofit windows, also known as replacement windows, are the type of windows we install at Custom Exchange. They are installed into your existing window frames, without causing any damage to your stucco, siding, or drywall. Retrofit windows are much more cost-effective to install than new construction windows, which require installers to remove any window trim and cut back the stucco or siding so they can be attached to the studs. New construction windows should only be used in cases where the studs are already exposed, like if you are building an addition or replacing your home’s stucco or siding.
What does Low-E glass mean?
Low-E glass, short for Low Emissivity, is a special type of coated glass that makes windows more energy efficient. Windows with Low-E glass can block approximately 85-90% of the harmful UV rays produced by the sun from entering your home during the warmer months. It also blocks 100% of the radiant heat from escaping your home during cold months. This means you won’t need to run your air conditioner as often in the summer or your heater as often in the winter.
What are noise reduction windows?
Noise reduction windows, commonly referred to as “soundproof windows,” are windows that have thicker insulated glass that can greatly reduce the amount of noise pollution in your home. Each manufacturer rates their products based on a uniform rating—the STC rating. STC stands for Sound Transmission Class. The higher the STC rating, the less sound or noise, is being transmitted. In single pane windows, the STC ratings range from 18-20. In dual pane windows, STC ratings range from 24 – 37, depending on the glass thickness. For comparison’s sake, a standard insulated wall in a stick-built home will typically have an STC rating of about 36. If noise is area of special concern for you, be sure to ask about upgraded sound suppression technology for your replacement windows.
